“The thought of hosting Christmas Carols by candlelight has always piqued my interest, as the Christmas season always has some magic,” said Ward 32 councillor Moosa Raise.

He holds that the celebration of this season has the power to unite communities, heal wounded hearts, and, most importantly, bring joy to the globe.

“We all have fantasies about Christmas and the meaning it offers,” he said. “It’s time for our youngsters to experience Father Christmas’ magic and be showered with gifts . . . what a wonderful sensation.

“We worked with the organisers of the last Atlantis Heritage Market and decided to host our very first Carols at this lovely facility in Ward 32, under the tree lane,” he explained about the event which took place last month.

Raise says he was pleasantly surprised by how well the organisers, musicians, artists, and residents of the day embraced this proposal. “This was a heartfelt and selfless occasion. Smile Productions offered free sound, lighting and entertainment.”

All performers sang and danced with an enthusiasm and a passion that came from every fibre of their being.

“This is the type of involvement that Atlantis needs to bring communities together, to forget the personal anguishes of the year, not to mention the surrounding violence,” said Raise.

The event was concluded by singing Christmas carols. Raise thanked Bronwyn Manter of the City of Cape Town office and Nikita Scott, Legacy Sounds Band and all the other role-players who made the day possible.

“I am looking forward to a larger celebration in 2024,” added Raise.
