Atlantis Foundries recently marked four decades by upgrading its administrative block.
“The investment in the renovation of our administration building is a symbol of our achievements and of where we are heading as a business into the future,” said Mervin Moodley, Atlantis Foundries’ Executive Director and Group MD.
Addressing the gathering at the ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday 27 February, Moodley described the building as modern, in keeping with the industrial feel of the complex.
The company also incorporated its colours into the decor and design.
“We wanted a corporate office that is more than a workplace,” he said, “in the sense that it is ergonomically friendly, establishes pride in the workforce, and is a place where people want to work.”
Atlantis Foundries, a major employer in Atlantis, sees itself as a key contributor and in the forefront of revitalisation.
Among its achievements of the last year or more are a record production in 2018 and 2019, achieving – for example – 1 million heavy-duty engine (HDEP) block production for Daimler AG, it was named winner in the Digitisation category in the Factory of the Year competition in 2019, and was awarded the Brownfield and Sustainability Award by President Cyril Ramaphosa at the investment conference of November 2019.
The company was also featured on M-Net investigative journalism series Carte Blanche for progress made in the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
At the ceremony, Alderman James Vos, Mayoral Committee Member for Economic Opportunities, said in addition to employing 800 people, mainly from Atlantis, contractors hired for the expansion project have been 100% local.
This means the investment and spin-offs, in terms of services acquired to expand, have been directed squarely into the local community.
To mark their four decades in Atlantis, the company will also be hosting a special fun day for their staff and families.
