Members of the Atlantis Crime Prevention Unit responded quickly to a shooting in progress at Fiskaal Street (the Old Tree Road) on Tuesday 1 March around 08:00.
According to Capt Lisa Munro, on the police’s arrival residents pointed them in the direction the suspect ran in with a firearm. They entered a premises in Hornbill Street and found a .38 Special revolver with two discharged cartridges and three live rounds hidden in a bucket.
“The suspect, identified as a 25-year-old from Atlantis, was arrested and detained on charges of possession of prohibited firearm and ammunition,” Munro said.
Continuous efforts by members attached to the Atlantis police Crime Prevention Unit to eradicate drug dealing also led to the arrest of a 14-year-old from Eagles Nest, Munro confirmed.
While doing stop-and-search operations on Thursday 3 March at 16:45 in Charel Uys Drive, a well-known minor was spotted jogging along. He was searched and a plastic bag containing 100 Boss Mandrax tablets to the street value of R4 000 were found on him and he was arrested for dealing in Mandrax.
The Acting Station Commander, Lt Colonel Theresa Reeves, expressed her gratitude to the community for assisting the police in apprehending suspects.
