Red your lips, wear red in support of the ACVV Koeberg during the 16 Days of Activism campaign runing from 25 November to 10 December.

The campaign aims to raise awareness about sexual and gender violence and speak out against rape myths, victim-blaming and gender violence.

Results of the Optimus Study makes it clear that by the time South African teenagers reach 15 to 17 years old, many of them would have experienced sexual, physical or emotional abuse, neglect, or have been exposed to high rates of violence. The incidence of sexual violence against boys is the same as for girls.

How can you support them?

From Sunday 25 November have your photo taken wearing red lips, wear a red tie, paint your moustache red or colour your hair or wear red and post it to their Facebook page at ACVV Koeberg.

For the rest of your life:

• Challenge the perpetrators of violence to change their behaviour.

• Involve men in helping to eradicate violence.

• Provide survivors with information on services and organisations that can help lessen the impact of violence on their lives.

• Speak out against women and child abuse. Encourage silent female victims to challenge abuse and ensure that they get help. Report child abuse to the police or social services immediately. Encourage children to report bullying behaviour to school authorities.

To find out more about their services phone 021 553 2745 during office hours (07:45-16:15, Monday to Friday) or visit their offices at 1 Ninth Avenue, Melkbosstrand, send an email to acvvkoeberg@afrihost.co.za or visit ACVV Koeberg on Facebook.
