As part of ongoing engagements to retain and expand business in Atlantis and Cape Town, James Vos, Mayco Member for Economic Opportunities and Asset Management, visited PF Nonwovens (PFN) with investors last week.

Accompanied by councillors from Atlantis and officials from the City’s Investment Facilitation Unit (IFU), he visited the company’s facility. Since PFN is a Czech company, Vos invited the Czech ambassador to join the visit “virtually” via Zoom and shared the message that Cape Town is open to international investors for business.

The first phase of the development is complete and operating at full capacity since mid-2019. Further phases are planned for the future to an estimated R1.8 billion, and is expected to create 200 full-time jobs by the end of phase 3, Vos said a reliable source had informed him. The facility is set to manufacture non-woven, polypropylene and polyethylene-based textiles to be used in disposable hygiene products such as baby diapers, adult incontinence and feminine hygiene products.

Vos explained: “When I was appointed Mayco Member for Economic Opportunities, I was committed to working with investors and communities investing in projects that will drive demand and make business for the benefit of residents of Atlantis and Cape Town. I visited this facility a year ago to view the construction of the production lines, and I am proud of the work done by the IFU to support this expansion, not to mention its benefiting the Atlantis community.”

Mayor Dan Plato visited Hisense, which announced its factory will invest a further R300m in its refrigerator line.
