Pimples always seem to pop up when least expected – or rather, when it shouldn’t!
Popping the pimple never seems to be the answer. And “why not”,’ you may ask, since all the gooey stuff is out. Well, the pimple must heal first, and pushing, pinching and scratching it just makes it worse.
Here are some helpful tips – with easily accessible ingredients – on how to heal and make your pimples disappear without any scars.
What is a pimple?
A pimple is an inflammatory skin condition that is a combination of oil build-up, dead skin cells and bacteria.
Easy ways to reduce inflammation to help your pimples heal faster:
1. Turmeric is anti-inflammatory, and will help reduce the inflammation and heal the pimple. Make a turmeric and lemon juice paste: Mix 1 teaspoon of turmeric and 1 teaspoon of lemon juice. Apply this as a spot treatment on pimples. You can leave it overnight and remove it with milk the next morning.
2. Cinnamon promotes healing and deep cleanses the skin by eliminating bacteria. Make a cinnamon and banana paste: Mix half a teaspoon of cinnamon and a quarter of banana. Apply this paste as a spot treatment. Leave it on for 30 minutes. Remove it with lukewarm water.
3. Tea tree oil fights inflammation and acne causing bacteria. Mix 1 drop tea tree oil and one teaspoon of carrier oil (grapeseed oil, sweet almond oil or coconut oil). Use a cotton ball to apply it only to the pimples. Repeat the application 1 to 2 times a day.
4. Green tea eliminates acne causing bacteria and help reduce sebum (oil produced by the skin). Steep green tea for 3 to 4 minutes. Allow it to cool down completely. Spritz it on your face or apply it to pimples with a cotton ball. Leave it on for 10 minutes or leave it overnight and remove with lukewarm water in the morning.
5. Aloe vera gel has shown to fight bacteria, reduce inflammation and promote healing. Scrape the gel out of the aloe leaves. Apply it to your skin. It works best in combination with other acne treatments. It can be applied on top or under acne treatments. Repeat 1 to 2 times a day.
6. Apple cider vinegar has organic acids that may help kill acne-causing bacteria. Dilute 1 part of apple cider vinegar with 3 to 4 parts of water (use more water for sensitive skin). Use a cotton ball and apply the mixture to the pimples. Leave on overnight and rinse off with lukewarm water in the morning.
Remember not to touch your pimples. Bacteria on your hands can make it worse, and it can take longer to heal. Always remember to do a patch test before you apply anything new to your skin.
