An Atlantis-based pharmacist has been nominated for a national award for going the extra mile for vulnerable people in the local community.
He is playing his part in tackling health and social issues in Atlantis through hard work and dedication.
Thaheir Alli Haheir, pharmacist and owner of Atlantis Pharmacy, has continuously served the community with a golden palm. For his hard work he has been nominated for an Adcock Ingram OTC (over the counter medicines) Thanking the Brave Award.
Haheir has been at the pharmacy for the past 12 years and is well-attuned to the daily struggles of local residents. He says this has fuelled him with a passion to give back. Over the last decade he has initiated and supported multiple outreach programmes. His many projects assist the elderly, underprivileged children and uplift youth through educational initiatives. His good works extend beyond Atlantis, with the construction of the Sadia Islamic Educational and Community Centre in Delft, Cape Town.
Haheir is also a volunteer at the Cape Town Islamic Educational Centre (CTIEC), which is involved with winter blanket drives, feeding schemes and more. One of his projects is a weekly feeding initiative that assists 300-400 people. Haheir and his team provide local residents in need with a hot meal, grocery parcels and a bottle of water to take home.
Haheir and his wife also procure nurses on site every second week to assist the community with regular HIV and TB-patient monitoring and health checks. They also check the blood pressure and glucose levels of the elderly in the area and offer them health and medical advice.
It is because of Haheir and Atlantis Pharmacy’s continued care and compassion that the community of Atlantis and collaborative NGOs have stepped out to show their love and appreciation for what he has poured into the community over the years.
