Crime Prevention Unit members of Atlantis police recently had various successes thanks to help from community members.

On Tuesday (5 April), at 17:25, police received information of a stolen bakkie at Valleyfield Street, Atlantis. The complainant came to the police station to report his Datsun bakkie, which was parked behind Shoprite, stolen, the papers of which he was instructed to provide.

Police, meanwhile, received a tip-off of two possible suspects in possession of a stolen vehicle.

Officers hurried to the address provided and found a 24-year-old suspect hiding in the yard and another, aged 32, in front. Tools and tyres had already been removed.

The suspects admitted to the police they had stolen the bakkie, and were arrested and detained in the Atlantis police cells, Captain Lisa Munro, local police spokesperson, said.

The police applaud the Atlantis community for information received. “Most of our successes are due to the cooperation of the community, and therefore we say thank you,” Munro said.

. In an unrelated incident members of the Crime Prevention Unit acted swiftly on information received from an informer of drugs buried in a backyard in Knysna Street, Sherwood Park, Atlantis. When police got to the house they started digging up 120 Mandrax tablets to the street value of R5 000, Munro confirmed. The 27-year-old suspect was arrested and detained, and had yet to appear in court.

. Members attached to the crime prevention unit at Atlantis Police received a tip-off, of drugs being sold at a house in Chris Hanie Street, Witsand, Atlantis on Tuesday (5 April) at 13:30.

On arrival at the address, police caught the alleged drug dealer (37) in the act with 114 Tik straws to the street value of R3 000. This suspect was also arrested and detained in the Atlantis police cells.
