Orion organisation celebrated its 40th birthday party through an unveiling ceremony which was held on 26 March. CEO Gerrit Matthyse welcomed the founding members, board members, visitors, beneficiaries, families and friends to this very special occasion.

He shared a brief history of Orion’s existence, beginning in 1982 with just a handful of committed people and a few people with disabilities.

The organisation has now grown to 176 people with disabilities and 45 staff members, who are all serving people with disabilities he said.

The celebration started shortly afterwards, with music, dancing, markets, art exhibitions, jumping castles and water slides, for everyone to enjoy themselves and celebrate. The day was completed when Orion announced Mr & Miss Orion 2022.

“We envisaged a transformation at Orion to become more sustainable, diversify our business model and grow our business to offer more services to differently abled people,” the CEO said. Orion over the next 40 years will not be the same, we will adjust and adapt with times.

As part of our 40-year fund-raising campaign, we are challenging you to pledge a R40,00 to show your support in the work that we are doing. The proceeds will go towards the operational costs of our amazing Children’s Day Care Centre. To further this campaign we would like you to support our black-tie event in mid-September and our annual golf day towards the end of November.
