Members attached to the local crime prevention unit were doing patrols on Saturday 30 April at 20:00 in Valleyfield Street, Extension 13, Atlantis when they heard gunshots.
According to police, they headed straight in the direction of the gunshots and spotted men running away, whom they then pursued. They caught a 27-year-old suspect with a 9 mm illegal firearm.
The same night, at 21:43, they were on crime prevention exercises in Athens Avenue, Saxonsea and spotted a very nervous-looking male. They stopped and search him and found two live rounds in his pocket and an imitation firearm in the back of his pants. The 21-year-old was arrested. Vispol commander Lt Colonel Mario Thyse applauded members for their good work.
