How wonderful to have held our September subcouncil meeting in Mamre!
My thanks go to all the community members who joined us. I hope in future we will see many more community members attending our meetings.
Three months of the financial year have gone by. While many projects do not have a lot to provide feedback on at this stage, I am proud to say so far we see no risks, and all is progressing well.
You will see the City is busy with various projects throughout Subcouncil 1. There is road resurfacing and road line marking being done. We have water-pipe replacements being prioritised and pump stations that are being upgraded and receiving generators. There are still many challenges, but it is great to see a buzz of activity and progress.
I’d like to share some other news about what is happening in the City. On 6 August the Junior City Council inaugural meeting took place, and the executive was elected on the 13th. I would like to wish them success and growth on this journey!
For those who do not know about the Junior City Council, it is a non-political programme that aims to develop the youngsters’ skills and self-esteem, and it provides them with a sense of civic responsibility, which they will hopefully encourage at their schools too. We are lucky to have quite a few members in our subcouncil.
Then, the City’s Safety and Security Directorate Annual Awards are fast approaching. This is an opportunity for neighbourhood watches to recognise individual members or groups for their hard work throughout the year. The nominations are open until 29 September, so you still have time. To nominate someone visit the City’s website for the forms and further information (www.capetown.gov.za).
The City’s 2023 external bursary application process is also now open. Individuals can register until 30 September. Financial support covers the registration cost, examination costs and class fees for formal studies. The bursaries also include capped allowances for study aid, transport and meals. Where a proven need exists the City may also cover a capped residence allowance, funding permitting.
