It’s that time of the year that Orion, an organisation that serves almost 200 people with disabilities needs the help of the community with its Krismis Box Project.
Each year it does its outmost to provide every beneficiary with a small Christmas gift, said CEO Gerrit Matthyse.
Orion serves 26 children aged 5 to 18 years old, and 141 adults, 85 males and 56 females. According to Matthyse, many of its beneficiaries no longer have family members they can spend the festive season with, so the organisation tries to provide them with a sense of “family” during the period of festivities, and a small gift at Christmas time is one of the ways in which to provide them with a sense of belonging.
“We therefore request your assistance in becoming a part of their family by sponsoring a Christmas gift/Orion Krismis Box to be gifted to them,” he said.
Matthyse said the box can include much-needed items such as toiletries (soap, toothpaste, toothbrush, deodorant, roll-on, and so on), something sweet, something to drink, an educational item (pen, reading book, colouring book, and so on) hair products (comb, brush or hair clips) and a clothing item (scarf, cap, hat, socks, and so on).
“Contributions would be much appreciated, not to mention recognising disability in our midst as an enrichment of our diversity.”
With just eight weeks to go, Orion need the community’s support to bring a smile to someone’s face this festive season.
Donate a box to the beneficiaries this Christmas and become part of our family at Orion. Contact Pauline Steenkamp on 021 572 8490/1 or email marketing@orionorganisation.co.za for more details.
