City of Cape Town officials handed 16 title deeds over to beneficiaries of its Atlantis Kanonkop Phase 1 housing project on Wednesday 15 February.
This title-deed handover is a testament to the City’s ongoing commitment to redressing housing shortages and providing security of tenure as well as economic opportunities, said Councillor Malusi Booi, Mayoral Committee Member for Human Settlements. He and his colleagues handed the title deeds over to the now first-time property owners.
“We are happy to celebrate with the residents of Atlantis this morning as they become first-time property owners,” Booi said. “A title deed is more than just a piece of paper. It is a stepping-stone for vulnerable residents who now have access to economic and entrepreneurial opportunities.”
According to the City of Cape Town it will continue providing title deeds and empower many more qualifying residents.
The title-deed programme is ongoing, and deeds have recently been handed over in Khayelitsha, Belhar, Delft and Morningstar.
“Our teams look forward to continuing with our title deeds programme this year, which will assist many more residents in all areas of the metro,” said Booi.
