Weskus Nuus, which has served the local community since 1984, is this year proudly celebrating its 40th anniversary.
Over the years the local publication has lived up to its name as the mouthpiece of the community.
It is the only newspaper in the distribution area that covers all aspects in terms of content and also exposes the challenges and glories of the community.
Since its inception several other publications have come and gone. Weskus Nuus provided relevant reporting and eventually became the choice of the community, and our clients became aware of this.
Maxwell Moss was the first editor of the paper after Gerrie Fourie came from the then Transvaal to start the paper with his journalist wife. Fourie distributed Weskus Nuus in Atlantis and the entire West Coast until he took Weslander over. After that, Weslander covered the West Coast area and Weskus Nuus reported on Atlantis and its surroundings. Moss later moved on to politics representing the African National Congress as a member of Parliament in the National Assembly, from 1999 to 2009.
Weskus Nuus is part of Weskus Media, which publishes Weslander, and forms part of the Boland Newspapers Group under the Media24 banner.
As part of our birthday celebration Weskus Nuus Atlantis is planning a birthday edition for the week of 26 November 2024.
. To celebrate this milestone, Weskus Nuus will publish a special Weskus Nuus 40th-birthday edition on Tuesday 26 November.
