Selvynn Olifant, a Grade 9 learner at Proteus Secondary, believes he can make a difference at his school and area. He was nominated for inclusion in the Mayoral Civic Pride Project by his school for his commitment to keeping his school clean and safe.
Principal Hilton Smith said Selvynn will always make sure every window at school is closed and is among the last to leave the school.
He said the cleaners at the school can’t get rid of him, assisting them as he does with their daily duties and also serves as a peace ambassador at school.
“I have always wanted to make a difference,” Selvynn said, “unlike so many others, because so many youngsters become involved with gangs.”
Ward councillor Moosa Raise said the Mayoral Civic Pride Project was launched by Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis after he was elected.
Moosa said it was a pleasure to announce Selvynn as the winner of R2 000 and a trophy.
