The police in Welkom have arrested a 37-year-old foreign national after drugs with an estimated street value of R20 000 were found in his vehicle.

On Friday, 8 August, the police received information about a man selling drugs from his vehicle. “The information was operationalised, and the vehicle was spotted parked in the Welkom CBD. The Welkom K9 Unit was activated, and after much resistance from the suspect, a search was conducted,” says Sgt Palesa Thabana, spokesperson for the Lejweleputswa police.

In the vehicle, the police discovered a black plastic bag containing drugs. They confiscated 46 grams of crystal meth, 34 rocks of cocaine, 19 Mandrax tablets, and R1 500 cash. They also impounded the vehicle – a Volkswagen Polo.

The suspect was arrested for possession of drugs.
