WELKOM – The cheerleading teams of Welkom-Gimnasium have returned home with an impressive collection of medals after delivering outstanding performances at the National Cheerleading Championships held on 4 July.

The school’s athletes showcased their talent, dedication and teamwork across several categories, earning top honours against some of the country’s strongest competition.

Leading the celebrations was the Co-Ed Cheerleading Level 2 team, which claimed the national title and was crowned national champions after securing the gold medal.

The All-Girl Cheerleading Level 2 team also impressed, finishing as runners-up to take the silver medal, while the Performance Cheer Level 2 team earned a well-deserved bronze medal with a third-place finish.

Adding to the school’s success, the Group Stunts Level 3 team narrowly missed out on the podium, finishing in an excellent fourth place.

School representatives praised the commitment shown by every athlete, from the flyers and bases

to the tumblers and dancers, whose months of hard work and preparation paid off on the national stage.

The achievements were also made possible through the dedication of the coaching staff, as well

as the unwavering support of parents and supporters who encouraged the teams throughout

the season.

The outstanding results highlight the growing strength of cheerleading at Welkom-Gimnasium and provide another proud sporting milestone for the school.

As they wrote on Facebook: “Our incredible athletes took the floor at Nationals on 4 July and absolutely crushed it! We are so incredibly proud of every single flyer, base, tumbler, and dancer.”

The team members are: Paballo Molupe, Lisakhanya Madolo, Thando Kwayiba, Mamphaki Posholi, Busisiwe Siboto, Nkanyezi Dangeni, Reitumetsi Oliphant, Nonhlanhla Nonhlapo, Diteboho Jobo, Zanele Marumo, Simone Parsons, Lira Sophie, Ayaka Manqina, Oratile Moeketsane, Jeralle Eksteen, Arthur-Junior Lund, Botshelo Ramanamane, Boitumelo Monjaki, Cayleigh Eksteen and Jessenta Shabi. The coaches are Zonnika Fourie and Cara Hewitt.
