The Virginia High School (VHS), in partnership with the Virginia Sports Academy, was crowned the champion at the Potchefstroom High School for Boys’ Inaugural Soccer Festival for 2025.

The festival was hosted by the boys’ high school on 15 and 16 August. Schools from four provinces participated for the prestigious title, including the Louis Botha Technical High School (THS) in Bloemfoentein, Fields College in Rustenburg, Clapham High School in Pretoria, and the Kimberly Boys High to name a few.

It was the first time the VHS participated in this tournament. They won all the group stage matches and clashed with the host school in the quarter final – resulting in a 5 – 1 victory.

The VHS then played against the Navalsig High School in the semifinal, with Virginia winning 4 – 3 on penalties. The VHS’ goal keeper, Sello Mokhobo, stopped two penalties for this win.

Virginia, ranked second in the country, then went pound for pound with Clapham, top ranked in the country, in the final.

The match ended 0 – 0, with Virginia winning 3 – 0 in penalties. Sello once again stopped two crucial penalties.

The 15-year-old Lehlohonolo “Eto” Khanas was named the Player of the Tournament.

“The boy has been incredible throughout the year, being among the best players at the Absa Wildeklawer Sport Tournament, Player of the Tournament at the As’Phelelanga Soccer Tournament, and now at Potchefstroom,” says Pitso Mokoena, head coach.

“We are very proud of the team; this has been the most awarding year, winning accolades in tournaments and festivals we value in our calendar,” says Mokoena.

The team’s management comprises Mokoena, Ngakane Lekhoba (team manager), and Modise Liphoko (head of sports).
