Three talented swimmers from the Goldfields region – Drake O’Tool, Levi Bouwer, and Tristan Venter – proudly represented the Free State at the recent SA Schools Championships held in Cape Town, showcasing determination, resilience, and exceptional sporting character against the country’s best.

The 2026 SA Schools Swimming Championships were held at the University of the Western Cape (UWC) in Cape Town from 24 to 27 April.

Drake earned a well-deserved bronze medal in the 50 m breaststroke.

In addition to his individual success, he was part of the men’s 4 x 100 m freestyle relay team that secured a silver medal.

Levi also produced strong swims throughout the competition. He achieved personal best times in both the 100 m backstroke and 100 m butterfly, underlining his steady progress and growing competitiveness at national level.

Tristan added further success to the team’s efforts, reaching the finals in both the 50 m and 100 m breaststroke events, where he recorded personal best times. He also played a key role in the men’s 4 x 50m individual medley relay team, which earned a bronze medal, contributing to the Free State’s presence on the podium.

Despite challenging weather conditions and the demands of a long and competitive season, all three swimmers remained focused and composed. Their performances reflect dedication, perseverance, and a strong work ethic.

Drake, Levi, and Tristan have not only represented the Free State with distinction but have also laid a solid foundation for even greater achievements in the future.
