The Welkom Super Seals Club swimmers concluded their season with a prize giving ceremony on 6 June, honouring swimmers who persevered through challenging circumstances.
The club faced adversity when Welkom’s only swimming pool closed for two months during the season. Despite this setback, swimmers continued training with limited facilities.
Coach Corinne Mansill attributed the success to collective effort.
“No victory was done alone. My parents are my biggest support and together we do the best we can for our swimmers and their future,” she said.
The club made history by hosting its first gala in Bloemfontein during the season. The event’s success has led to plans for future annual competitions between Welkom and Bloemfontein.
The prize giving recognised swimmers across multiple levels based on their dedication, commitment and personal best times.

Rosslyn Roper and Catrien van der Walt received level zero awards, whilst Wernich Naudé and Jovian Barnes achieved level one. Level two awards went to Hayden Barnes, Enrico du Preez, Kaira Nel, Alexio Savvas, Chris Savvas and Tatum Venter. Dirk Nel, Elle-Anne Roper and Jordan Wiesner earned level three recognition.
Shyenne Laubscher and Tristan Venter qua-
lified for the South African Youth Championships. SJ Nel won the senior victor ludorum award, whilst Laubscher claimed the senior victrix ludorum title. Nel’s sibling, Dirk Nel, received the junior victor ludorum award, and Roper won junior victrix ludorum.
Venter received the coaches’ award and Du Preez was named most improved swimmer.

“As a coach, I cannot be prouder. My swimmers worked hard and did their best towards their goals. I am ready and look forward to the new season ahead,” Mansill said.
