Six armed men robbed a Welkom jewellery store and made off with an undisclosed amount of jewellery and cash on Tuesday morning, 23 September.
At about 09:36, the men charged DN Smith Jewellers at the Checkers Centre, corner of Arrarat Road and Stateway. The suspects ransacked the store and took a 53-year-old victim’s cellphone. Allegedly, they also assaulted him.
The suspects left with jewellery, watches and an undisclosed amount of cash. They fled the scene using two vehicles. One was a grey Toyota Corolla Conquest and the other was a white Volkswagen Polo.
“The police urge anyone who might have information that could lead to the arrest of the six suspects to contact Sgt Pitso Matsie of the Welkom Serious and Violent Crimes unit on 071 062 7692, or the Crime Stop number, 08600 10111.
“An anonymous tip-off may be sent through the My SAPS app,” says Sgt. Palesa Thabana, communication and liaison officer for the Lejweleputswa police.
