Notable improvements in learner attendance and academic performance were marked during oversight visits to two schools.
Recently, Zama Lucas Sigwebela, member of the Free State Legislature, conducted oversight visits to the Vetrivier Combined School, a farm school located outside Bultfontein, and the Thorisong Primary School in Hoopstad.
Here, Sigwebela expressed his appreciation for the notable improvement at both schools. This enhanced performance indicators suggest that educational initiatives are yielding positive results in rural school environments.
However, Sigwebela also acknowledged challenges beyond the control of both schools’ management, which require coordinated intervention and support from all stakeholders at local and provincial government levels.

The oversight visits form part of the Free State Legislature’s programme aimed at assessing the state of readiness of schools and monitoring overall educational performance across the province.
These visits underscore the
legislature’s commitment to monitoring educational standards and ensuring that schools across the Free State receive appropriate
support to deliver quality education.
The findings from the visits will influence future policy decisions and resource allocation to address challenges whilst building upon the positive developments observed at both schools.
