Four suspects believed to be involved in kidnapping, robbery, attempted murder, and drugs were arrested by the Welkom Anti-Gang unit in Welkom and Kutloanong.

On 12 April, the unit was busy with crime combating duties in Bok Street in the Welkom CBD when they approached a suspicious male. Drugs were found in his possession, and in his vehicle they found nine 5 g sachets of crystal meth and 16 full Mandrax tablets. A 44-year-old foreign national was arrested and a red Hyundai with FS number plates and drugs were seized.

The unit then proceeded to Kutloanong, Odendaalsrus, where a well-known drug dealer was identified and approached. They found six full Mandrax tablets, five crystal meth sachets, two Cat drug samples, and one sample of the drug Rock. The drugs were seized and a 32-year-old foreign national was arrested.

In the K9 section of Kutloanong the police saw residents assaulting a person. The person had been accused of kidnapping, attempted murder, and robbery. The police managed to rescue the suspect from the angry crowd mob. A preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect and three others males were involved in kidnapping. They also stabbed and robbed their victim of his money, and left him unconscious near the graveyard in the early hours of Friday, 12 April.

A 33-year-old suspect was arrested for kidnapping, attempted murder, and robbery. The following exhibits were seized: one green top with blood stains, pepper spray, one DH-branded beanie with blood stains, and one pair of socks with blood stains.

In another incident, the unit arrested a 28-year-old man in the Block 5 Section of Kutloanong for possession of drugs. They found nine crystal meth sachets in his home.

The four suspects appeared in the Welkom and Odendaalsrus Magistrates’ Courts.
