I recently gave birth to my first child at the Bongani Hospital in Welkom, and I cannot recommend this place enough.
As a 34-year-old first-time mom, I was admitted on January 14 after being classified as high-risk. I will admit, I was terrified about going there and the induction process they planned for me.
But from the moment I arrived, the nurses put me at ease – they even helped carry my bags and took the time to explain every step of the induction clearly and patiently.
The entire staff was incredibly friendly and supportive throughout my stay, which ended up being about a week and a half. When things progressed to needing a C-section, they transferred me to the dedicated ward without any hassle. I was feeling so stressed and anxious, but the team went out of their way to keep me calm and reassured.
The service was top-notch – truly the best I have ever experienced in a hospital setting.
After the C-section, I struggled with breastfeeding my baby, which is common for new moms like me. The nurses did not hesitate; they came right in, offered practical tips and advice, demonstrated techniques, and explained everything in detail.
Their willingness to help made all the difference during those vulnerable early days.
Even on discharge day, when I was panicking because my transport was leaving at 11:00 and I had no backup, the doctor prioritised my situation. Despite dealing with a medical emergency, he expedited my release to make sure I could get home safely. That kind of compassion is rare.
What stood out most was how the staff treated everyone equally, with respect and kindness. There was an instance where I needed an injection as part of my healing process, but I was hesitant due to my religious beliefs. They explained its importance thoroughly without any pressure, giving me time to decide – no forcing or judgment.
The team at the Bongani Hospital deserves every award out there for their dedication and humanity. If you are expecting, especially in a high-risk situation, do not hesitate to choose this hospital. They turned what could have been a scary ordeal into a positive, empowering experience. Thank you to everyone there – you have set the bar high.
