The Christian Women’s Ministry (CWM) of the Retshedisitswe United Reformed Church in Southern Africa (URCSA) in Welkom hosted a charity drive on Saturday 13 June, attracting more than 250 people from the church and broader community.

The Retshedisitswe URCSA is a congregation based in Oppenheimer Park, Welkom, committed to spiritual growth and community development through outreach programmes aimed at uplifting vulnerable members of society.

The event was held under the stewardship of Rev. Itumeleng Dibane and Juffrou Mpho Dibane.

The charity drive aimed to support the more vulnerable and less fortunate households identified within the community.

Through contributions from church members, clothing items were collected and distributed to families in need.

Altogether 15 food parcels were handed over to identified beneficiary households. Three of these parcels were donated to households affected by recent floods in Welkom, providing relief to families recovering from the disaster.

Additionally, a community soup kitchen served a warm meal to attendees.

Community members gathered to receive assistance and share in fellowship.

Dibane thanked all volunteers, donors and church members who contributed to the initiative.

“This event demonstrates the love of Christ in action. We are grateful to everyone who donated, prayed, volunteered and supported this initiative.

“Together, we have shown that even small acts of kindness can make a significant difference in the lives of others,” he said.

Juffrou Dibane thanked the congregation and community partners for their support, noting that the success of the event was made possible by collective efforts.

The community members who benefited from the initiative expressed their gratitude for the assistance received.

The organisers indicated their intention that similar outreach programmes will continue in future as part of the church’s mission to uplift and support vulnerable families.

The event concluded with prayers, fellowship and renewed commitment from church members to continue serving their community. The parted with a message from Matthew 25:40: “Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”
