Members of the Harmony Striders athletics club were in action on the weekend of 11 and 12 July, representing the club at events in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng.

Riaan and Adel Henderson took on the 12,5 km event at the Lake Eland Oribi Gorge Extreme Trail Run, held at the Eland Game Reserve in KwaZulu-Natal on the Saturday. The scenic trail is known for its rugged terrain and demanding climbs, attracting trail runners from across the country.

On the Sunday, Clayton Anderson and Twané Anderson represented the Harmony Striders at the Gerald Fox Race, hosted at the Johannesburg Zoo.

The club’s weekly time trials, held on Wednesday 8 July, once again attracted a good turnout, with members completing either the 4 km or 8 km route.

In the 8 km event, Thapelo Khanali recorded the fastest time of 31:21, followed by Andre van Niekerk in 40:30 and Amelia du Plessis in 43:01. Other finishers were Cornelius Visagie (55:07), Johan Pretorius (64:10), Deleen van Rooyen (68:00) and Yvonne Visagie (68:00).

The fastest runner over the 4 km distance was Raboroko Mojalefa, who crossed the finishing line in 14:50.

Bertus van Wyk followed in 23:01, as well as Reghardt Bester (23:19), Deon Lodder (23:21), Andre Els (24:25), Morne Nel (24:28), Rina Nel (25:44), Rudolph Rabie (26:20), Kananelo Mohlosela (28:02), Zama Fixane (29:30), Nico Dicks (31:16), Gert van Wyk (36:00), Benedict Tsenoli (36:10), Christien Els (36:41), Julie Opperman (36:41), Ronel van Wyk (37:19), Ishmael Dhlamini (37:27), Clayton Anderson (40:00) and Twané Anderson (40:00).

Members of the Harmony Striders have participated in multiple cycling and running events across the country in recent weeks, with one athlete claiming an age category victory.

Amelia du Plessis won the 50-plus age category at the cross-country event in Welkom on 27 June.

Also, five club members took part in the 50 km Matjhabeng Cycle challenge in Welkom on 5 July. Deon Lodder, Andre Els, Rudolph Rabie, Rina Nel and Reghardt Bester completed the event.

Runners Clayton Anderson and Twané Anderson competed in the Brooks Cradle Cracker 15 km and 28 km run in Muldersdrift on 28 June.

Mina Sullivan represented the club at the Doek on Fleek – She Moves SA 10 km race in Gauteng at the James and Ethel Gray Park on 27 June.

The Harmony Striders and friends also supported the Polar Bear Swim at Aldam on 27 June. Participants included Rudolph Rabie, Eugene van Huyssteen, Rina Nel, Deon Lodder, Morne Nel, Mornay du Plessis, Danica Nel and Freddie Steyn.

The club held time trials on Wednesday 1 July.

In the 8 km event, Cornelius Visagie recorded 55:13, Johan Pretorius 65:00, and Deleen van Rooyen and Yvonne Visagie both finished in 68:00.

Oratile Nandela recorded the fastest

4 km time at 16:30, followed by Kananelo Mahlasela in 16:29. Reghardt Bester finished in 21:35, while Morne Nel clocked 25:11.

In the Friday 24 June time trials, Andre van Niekerk completed the 8 km in 40:00, while Kananelo Mahlasela finished in 30:29.

In the 4 km event, Kananelo Sejentu recorded 16:53 and Reggie Mokhosi 17:31.
