• Harmony Striders demonstrated their commitment to long-distance running with strong representation at two major marathon events over the weekend of 7-8 February, competing across multiple distances in Bloemfontein and Klerksdorp.

The club’s weekend began with the Kloppers Marathon in Bloemfontein on 7 February, where four Harmony Striders took on the challenge across three distance categories. Andre Els tackled the full 42.2-kilometre marathon distance, representing the club in the most demanding category of the event.

Charmaine Nortier competed in the half-marathon, covering 21.1 kilometres through the Free State capital, whilst the 10-kilometre event saw participation from Christien Els and Anchen Jacobs, both of whom completed the shorter but equally competitive distance.

The following day, 8 February, saw an even larger contingent of Harmony Striders travel to Klerksdorp for the Efficient Wealth Klerksdorp Marathon. The club’s marathon runners were well represented, with four athletes taking on the full 42.2-kilometre challenge. Morne Nel, Gordon Lodder, Deon Lodder, and Mavis Motaung all lined up for the gruelling full-distance event in the North West Province.

Rina Nel competed in the half-marathon distance at Klerksdorp, whilst the 10-kilometre event attracted the largest group of Harmony Striders participants. Marietjie van Loggerenberg, Estelle Henrico, and Antoinette Bothma all completed the shorter distance, contributing to the club’s strong showing at the event.

Meanwhile, a larger contingent of Harmony Striders travelled to Ottosdal for the unique Night Race, which offered competitors the distinctive experience of running under floodlights. The full marathon distance of 42.2 kilometres proved popular with club members, as Morne Nel and Rudolph Rabie both tackled the challenging night-time course.

The half-marathon at the Ottosdal Night Race saw strong representation from Harmony Striders, with Gordon Lodder, Deon Lodder, and Rina Nel all competing over the 21.1-kilometre distance. The participation of both Lodder brothers in the same event highlights the family-oriented nature of the club’s membership.
