Faith inspires writing

For many people, life’s greatest struggles are chapters they would rather forget.

For author Palesa Mohale, they became the pages of a story she hopes will encourage others to keep believing, even when life feels overwhelming.

Her self-published book, Unbroken: Grace in the Fire – A Journey of Faith, Pain, and Purpose, is more than a memoir. It is a deeply personal testimony of surviving loss, illness, poverty and heartbreak while holding on to faith.

Mohale says she never intended to write a story of perfection.

“I planned to tell a true one,” she writes in her author’s note.

“Every chapter was lived, cried through, prayed over, and ultimately redeemed by God’s grace.

“The book traces the emotional and spiritual journey of a woman whose life has been marked by adversity. From losing her grandparents to battling illness and enduring financial hardship.”

Mohale describes seasons when hope seemed distant and prayers appeared to go unanswered.

Yet, she says, those difficult moments became the foundation of a stronger faith.

“There were nights I could barely move, days when hope felt impossible, and moments when silence from heaven felt unbearable,” she writes.

“But in every tear, every setback and every unanswered prayer, God was still working.”

Rather than presenting suffering as defeat, Mohale reflects on how hardship reshaped her outlook on life. She believes grace is not always about escaping difficult circumstances, but about finding the strength to endure them.

“I have come to learn that grace does not always remove the fire – sometimes it refines you through it.”

Throughout the book, Scripture forms the backbone of her reflections, with passages from Isaiah, Job, Jeremiah and Corinthians providing comfort and perspective.

The recurring message is one of perseverance.

It encourages readers to see their own struggles not as the end of their story, but as part of a greater purpose set out for them.

Mohale hopes her experiences will resonate with people who continue to quietly carry emotional burdens behind a smile.

“This book was written for the ones who smile in public but break in private, for those who pray and still feel pain, and for every person who wonders if God still sees them,” she says.

Central to her message is the belief that difficult seasons do not define a person’s worth or determine their future.

“The fire you walk through is not meant to destroy you, but to reveal the strength that was always within,” she writes.

In addition to sharing her personal testimony, Mohale’s book opens with a prayer for its readers, asking that they find peace, renewed strength and healing through their own journey of empowerment.

While Unbroken is rooted in Christian faith, its broader themes of resilience, hope and overcoming adversity speak to anyone who has faced life’s uncertainties.

For Mohale, publishing the book represents more than achieving a personal goal. It is the culmination of years of perseverance and an opportunity to encourage others who may be facing challenges of their own.

Her message is simple but powerful: No matter how fierce the storm or how painful the journey, hope remains possible.

As she reminds readers in the opening pages: “You may walk through the fire, but you will come out unbroken.”
