Someone said the only thing we can be certain of is change.

The world around us is constantly changing. As humans, we constantly find ourselves in a process of change. As the saying goes: “Adapt or die.”

In the world, and especially in South Africa, changes are rapidly taking place.

In my opinion, there are three forces that motivate people to change. Some change because they must adapt to financially survive. Others change because they are forced to do so by something out of their control. A third group of people change, but only superficially, to avoid loss – for example to keep a business, organisation, or church afloat.

This is problematic though, because true change has to be internally motivated and come from the heart. Externally driven change will perhaps last for a while, until it is unveiled as being superficial.

I believe the only change with the power to bring true and lasting transformation is found in an intimate relationship with Jesus Christ. True change originates out of a heart of Godly love.

The Scriptures teach us God’s motivation for sending Jesus Christ to this world was that He loved us as his creation so much that He gave Himself as a human sacrifice so that not one person in this world shall perish, but that everyone will have everlasting life.

True and lasting change can only come when we allow God, through his Son Jesus Christ, to place His nature that is rooted in love in us.

Change not produced by a changed heart is window dressing at its best. We desperately need change that transforms us from the inside out.

We still have a window of opportunity by the grace of God to bring change that will see a lasting transformation.

My prayer is that you and I will open our hearts to change that is generated and fueled by the love of God. That we will be agents of change by allowing God to transform us from the inside out and bring change that will transform every fibre of our society and bring healing to our nation.

Change is required, but lasting change can only come from a changed heart. Shalom.
