The Harmony Striders hosted their 23rd annual Valentine Night Race on 13 February at Welkom Square, attracting a record number of participants to the popular evening event.

“It was a huge success, with 1 060 athletes taking part,”

says Deon Lodder, chairman of the running club.

Sponsorships from numerous local businesses contributed significantly to the event’s success. The competitive racing produced impressive performances across both gender categories.

Arouchelle Niewenhuis claimed victory in the women’s 10km race with a time of 43:21, demonstrating strong endurance and pacing throughout the course.

The men’s 10km race saw Siyabonga Derison dominate the field, crossing the finishing line in an outstanding time of 30:01, showcasing exceptional speed and athletic ability.

The race has become a cornerstone event on the Goldfields’ running calendar, consistently attracting both serious competitive athletes and recreational runners from across the region.
