Road safety will be prioritised

During the festive season road safety campaign launch on the N1 in Kroonstad on 30 November, Maqueen Letsoha-Mathae, Free State premier, strongly cautioned road users to be cautious.

She warned them that they should at all times be disciplined, cautious, and considerate of one another.

“We will show no mercy to reckless drivers, and neither will we allow unroadworthy vehicles on our roads. We will not allow responsible and obedient road users to be at the mercy of erratic drivers.” – Maqueen Letsoha-Mathae, Free State premier

The premier said that the province would not be a safe passage for illegal immigrants and other criminal elements.

Barbara Creecy, minister of Transport, confirmed that this time of the year indeed accounts for the highest rate of fatalities on South Africa’s roads.
