Welkom – A veteran radio and television broadcaster from Welkom has been awarded the opportunity to serve as aviation host for the Red Bull Flugtag, a prestigious world-class event that attracts approximately 200,000 spectators and close to 2.4 million television viewers.
The event will take place on Sunday, 2 November, at the Cape Town Waterfront.
For me, it’s such an honour to have been chosen by Red Bull
“For me, it’s such an honour to have been chosen by Red Bull. I will be part of a team of three presenters. The presenters will be on the launch platform whilst I handle the so-called flying parts,” said Emmenis.
The broadcaster is well known for his work on Radio Oranje and Capital Radio 604 in years gone by. He was also chosen to run Radio Goldfields, which served as the forerunner to the establishment of community radio in South Africa.

Broadcasting Legacy
His most recent major project was Gold FM, which continues to thrive in the Goldfields region.
The Red Bull Flugtag represents a significant career milestone for the veteran broadcaster, who has built a reputation for engaging sports and aviation commentary over several decades.
Dual Cape Town Events
Simultaneously with the Waterfront event, Emmenis will have a team at one of the biggest outdoor expos at the SAAF Ysterplaat Airforce Base. He is flying his team to Cape Town for both the Flugtag and the expo, demonstrating the scale of his broadcasting operation.
The Red Bull Flugtag is known for its unique combination of engineering creativity and entertainment, where teams launch homemade flying machines from a platform whilst attempting to achieve maximum distance and style points.
