SAPS Kariega detectives are investigating a culpable homicide case following a fatal accident where two people died on Saturday, May 18, on the Rocklands Road. 

According to Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, it is alleged that at approximately 18:15, three vehicles were involved in the accident on the on the R334, Rocklands/Uitenhage Road.

She said according to information, the driver of the Toyota Avanza was travelling in the direction of Rocklands and was alone in the vehicle. 

“A VW Golf with two occupants was travelling in the direction of Kariega.

“It was further alleged that the driver of the Avanza was attempting to avoid an accident with cattle on the road but collided head-on with the VW Golf,” she said. 

She added that behind the VW Golf was a third vehicle, a VW Polo also travelling in the direction of Kariega, also collided into the back of the VW Golf.

“The unknown driver of the Avanza and a 30-year-old female from the VW Golf died at the scene while the driver of the VW Golf was taken to the hospital for treatment.”

A case of culpable homicide is under investigation.
