The closing date for the Statistics South Africa human resources registration database, used to identify contract staff for all projects, including the forthcoming census which will commence in February, has been extended to January 31, 2022.
The date change does not affect the date for census data collection in any way. Fieldwork will commence on census night, 2 February 2022, as planned. The appointment of approximately 165 000 field staff will be completed in time for census training to commence.
Contract staff are recruited from the areas in which they reside. As with any project, there are those who resign during the project and need to be replaced. Those who are contacted after 18 January will receive catch-up and on-the-job training to ensure that they are able to perform their work competently.
