AS a social work manager, youth development and empowerment has been at the core of the career Travis Marshall, the recently appointed director of Oosterland Child and Youth Care Centre in Despatch.
Marshall has taken over the director position vacated by Riaan Marais.
Marshall is no stranger to residential care, having spent the past 13 years as the program director at the EP Children’s Home in Port Elizabeth. He obtained a degree in Social Work from Nelson Mandela University and has more than 15 years’ experience in the non-profit organisation sector.
The challenges of COVID-19 have created a lot of uncertainty and change in the world.
Marshall said, “I believe that it is our purpose that gives us resolve to continue each day during tough seasons. We are all experiencing a tough time now during this pandemic and the poor outlook of the South African economy.
“Despite this, I believe that in this time of change Oosterland has a solid foundation of principles and purpose driven staff. I believe that with this foundation and the blessing of our Almighty God we will be able to navigate the challenges ahead,” said Marshall.
He has also served on the Eastern Cape Welfare Forum and SACSSP and has established strong networks with stakeholders in the Eastern Cape. Travis has a certificate in project management from Varsity College and has extensive experience in fundraising and resource mobilisation.
“My motivation and hope are that our children and future generations will have a community that allows for rich and meaningful lives and that they will have the passion, information, and tools they need to be the stewards of our nation in the years to come.
“I do believe that Oosterland is a key role-player to make this a reality and I am excited by the possibilities ahead,” said Marshall.
He enjoys many hobbies, including cooking, breeding tropical fish and gaming. His family and friends are very important to him and he loves nothing more than sharing a meal or braai with them at home.
Oosterland remains committed to the same values and programs in order to provide quality child care services to children in need.
