THE Stock Theft Unit in Uitenhage is investigating a case of stock theft after seven cattle were stolen and slaughtered in Khayamnandi, Despatch.
According to police information the incident happened between Monday evening, 6 July 2020 and the early morning of Tuesday, 7 July 2020. It is alleged that the cattle were slaughtered about 1km from their kraal.
“The meat was transported to be sold and the estimated value of the stock theft amounts to more than R90 000,” said police spokesperson Captain Gerda Swart.
Investigating officers from the Uitenhage Stock Theft Unit urgently appeal to the community to assist them with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects involved in the theft of the stock or the illegal selling of the stolen meat.
“The Unit is currently investigating several other cases that also occurred in the area and the police encourage stock owners to be more vigilant about stock thieves,” said Captain Swart.
“The police also discourage members of the community from buying stolen meat and appeal to them rather to report it to their nearest police station.”
