HUNDREDS of jobs will be created with the opening of Corkwood Square Mall in Uitenhage which has begun with earthworks earlier this month and is set to debut in March 2021.
Holger Peens, CEO of Keystone Investments said the earthworks and retaining structures are programmed to be completed by middle February 2020 and top structure construction will commence in February 2020.
Peens further said this is well on target for the centre’s opening date of March 2021.
“The first phase of the centre will have a gross leasable area of 26 000 square meters and will be anchored by Checkers, Boxer, Woolworths, Dischem, Mr Price, Ackermans, Pep and Mr Price Home which will be further complemented by exciting national and independent retailers,” said Peens.
The centre is expected to bring many new tenants to the area as well as consolidate the current retail offering into a new, modern and safe environment for shoppers to enjoy.
“Over and above the substantial financial investment and the multitude of positive benefits for the area, it is expected that the development will create 1 500 temporary jobs during construction and once completed 500 permanent jobs,” said Peens.
The planned mall is located adjacent to Union Avenue and easily accessible from both Despatch as well as KwaNobuhle.
According to Peens the centre will cater to the regional shopping demands of the 220 000 strong population of these three towns.
“With ample secure parking, an undercover taxi terminal and simple pedestrian access the centre will be very convenient to all customers alike,” said Peens.
