The Triple “L” Plant Despatch Rally, which is Round Two of the Algoa Rally Club Championship will be held in and around Despatch on Saturday, 30 April.

Action starts at Innibos Lapa, which will be the headquarters of the 22 rally crews for the entire weekend. Cars will then head to Jachtvlakte at the back of Despatch, followed by exciting stages in town opposite Despatch SuperSpar and then back to Jachtvlakte and to Innibos for the finishing stage.

“Despatch will be well represented with some classic cars like Herman Bernhardt and JP Smit in their yellow Ford Escort,” said Rikus Fourie, chairman of the Algoa Rally Club.

First out on the road will be championship leaders and Round One winners, Neels Vosloo and Rikus Fourie.

“Stage 1 will be the longest of the rally, just short of 30 kilometres, and offers beautiful spectator vantage points of the action at Jachtvlakte. After completion, cars will head back to Innibos for fuel and tyre top-up services, specifically to put on tyres for the tar stages opposite Despatch SuperSpar at the taxi rank parking area,” said Fourie.

Stage 2 is a short speed test in town and will be less than a kilometre of action-packed racing. It will be run back-to-back as Stage 3 also. After these stages the cars will head back to Innibos to put on gravel tyres again and then tackle Stage 4 which is the return to Jachtvlakte.

After the second Jachtvlakte stage, cars will head back to Innibos for the finale, which will cover a distance just short of 15 km. Spectators can enter Innibos Lapa via the main gate off the R367. There will be various food stalls and refreshments at Innibos Lapa for spectators to enjoy.

“Spectators are requested to be at spectator vantage points ahead of time. At the final stage at Innibos there will be ample parking and spectators are invited to join the champagne spray at 17:30,” said Fourie.
