The Algoa Rally Club held an open day last Saturday at Innibos Lapa on the outskirts of Despatch, to which the public was invited to experience what it feels like being in the navigator seat.
Experienced rally drivers not only enjoyed the fun they had with their “passengers” but also made use of the opportunity to test their vehicles before the next official race, Round 1, on Saturday, 12 March.
For this 1st round of the seven-round championship, rally cars and crews will gather at Aldo Scribante racetrack from 07:00.
According to Rikus Fourie, chairperson of the Algoa Rally Club, an estimate of 25 cars is expected to take the starting orders for some exciting rally action.
“All spectators are recommended to go to Aldo Scribante racetrack and remain there for the day. Entry will be free, and spectators should please take note that the rally cars will be making use of the embankment inside and outside the main circuit as part of the rally course,” said Fourie.
Spectators will be able to meet the teams in the pit area before the action starts. The first stage will start at 11:30 with a Super Special Stage that has two cars racing each other on the same track at the same time. This will be repeated at 13:30 with a mixed finale of the event at 16:30.
“A champagne podium spray for top Clubmans Challenge as well as the Top 3 overall winners is expected at 17:30,” said Fourie.
Round 2 of the seven-round championship will be on Saturday, 30 April at Innibos with the possibility of a stage in Despatch.
