Whether it is a practice session or a formal rugby match, a deep voice can always be heard on and from the sideline calling on the boys to focus.

The voice belongs to the Sports Co-ordinator of Dower Practising School, Balgobin Human, an ex-learner who, for the past six years, offered his time and skills to mould the boys not just on but also off the field.

Elijah Hendricks (12), is one of these boys who have been receiving guidance and support from Human for the past three years.

Elijah comes from a rugby family and proudly wears the no.7 jersey and has a skillset way beyond his age. He is a described by staff as a humble and disciplined player with good academic records as well. “A playmaker and analytical in his approach on the field, it makes watching him play pure joy,” said coach Human.

Elijah recently went to the Groendal Sports Association U/12 rugby trials, where he was identified as a promising player, and thereafter, he was absorbed into the Uitenhage-1 team that travelled to Graaff-Reinet for the EP U/12 trials.

With his coach by his side, the recognition he deserved came his way, and he was absorbed into the Eastern Province U12 Elephants team 2025.
