THE efforts of the Abahlobo Cricket Club (ACC) in KwaNobuhle to develop young cricket players, are paying off and a number of these players will receive recognition for their outstanding performances at the club’s prizegiving on Saturday.

The prizegiving will also serve as the club’s 10th anniversary.

“The coaches assist with the development of young cricket talent at four primary schools in KwaNobuhle namely Melumzi, Magqabi, Hombakazi and Phakamile. The club funds these coaching clinics,” said Sindile Mpumelelo, secretary of the Abahlobo Cricket Club.

The club, led by chairman Luvuyo Mtati, managed in the past two cricket seasons to develop players for both Eastern Province as well as the Uitenhage District teams. The club in the past also developed qualified coaches as well as administrators.

According to Sindile Bungane, one of the Cricket South Africa accredited coaches of the club, ACC was established by a group of church going members, who during 2009 hosted a cricket event.

“The event turned out to be so successful that the church members’ interest in the sport led to them deciding to establish a club,” said Bungane.

“The past season the club finished the highest ever in a league, when we ended joint second in the Eastern Province Cricket Association’s first league division.”

The 2019 ACC ambassadors who will receive recognition at the prizegiving include Lunomitho Gana and Namgla Mgxande who gained their EP Cricket girls U/16 colours as well as Vuyo Makana and Kamva Douws for earning their Uitenhage District U/12 colours. The other ACC ambassadors are Cricket SA accredited coaches (level two certificates) Sindile Bungane, Siyabonga Nxelelwa and Ayanda Booi as well as administrators Luvuyo Mtati, Litha Nelani, Sindile Bungane and Lunga Williams.

The prizegiving will be held at the LoveLife Centre in KwaNo-buhle on Saturday at 18:00.
