KARIEGA – Two suspects aged between 48 and 50 were arrested by SAPS Kariega, and a large quantity of drugs were seized during an intelligence-driven operation in the Kariega CBD yesterday, 28 January 2026.
According to SAPS spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, members attached to SAPS Kariega Crime Prevention acted on information which pointed to the existence of an organised drug distribution network operating in the area.

“During the operation, police searched the premises in John Street, Kariega, where they discovered and seized Tik and Mandrax with an estimated value of R100,000.”
She added that the police also recovered a scale and cash believed to be proceeds of crime, which were also confiscated.
“Both suspects were arrested on charges of dealing in drugs and possession of drugs,” she said. “They are detained and will appear before the Kariega Magistrate’s Court soon.”
Janse Van Rensburg concluded, “Police reiterate their commitment to dismantling drug networks and urge community members to continue working with SAPS by reporting criminal activities, as information from the public remains vital in the fight against drugs.”
