LEARNERS from Solomon Mahlangu Moot Law represented the district at the provincial rounds in East London.
The case before the court was that of a Christian faith-based school suspending a learner whose entire family had converted to Rastafarianism in the June holidays and returned wearing dreadlocks and stating that he no longer observed the Christian faith.
Both parts of his decision were in contravention of the school’s Code of Conduct.
Two Grade 11 learners from Solomon Mahlangu, Thabo Juqu and his co-counsel Masixole Nxayeka, presented well researched and prepared oral arguments from their legal essays for both the applicant (the learner) and the respondent (the school).
Thabo was one of the top ten best public speakers.
The Eastern Province won the competition at national level again this year.
