A Facebook teachers platform, Teaching the Aftermath, was established by Despatch Preparatory in conjunction with the Literacy Association of South Africa (LITASA), where they share resources for the teaching community and interested parties.

“We noticed an increasing need for electronic sharing during the COVID-19 crisis and felt that as a school we wanted to contribute as much as possible back to the teaching community,” said Madelene Sachse principal of Despatch Preparatory.

“Teachers need to share, but they are so stretched for time. We regard teaching as a team sport, you have to share solutions to very difficult problems,” said Asja Strydom, HOD at Despatch Preparatory.

“Sometimes you have to find a solution quickly before 40 children arrive. Therefore I want to help, offering ideas, solutions and resources weekly on the Teaching the Aftermath page on Facebook. I will also post Zoom links about topics that can assist teachers in their massive task,” said Strydom who also is a member of the Literacy Association of South Africa (LITASA).

She said LITASA wants to assist educators on as many platforms as possible and found that the closer to basics the topics are the better they were received by the public and members.

Strydom is a member of various bodies where she collects the information and passes it on to all on the group. “Parents have even started joining the group to get ideas they can use at home to help their children,” said Strydom.

  • Please feel free to join Teaching the Aftermath on Facebook and feel free to share any relevant information or ask any questions you may have with regard to teaching. For further information contact Asja Strydom at 061 493 5241. – REPORTER
