The Uitenhage and Allanridge Library staff had a blast spoiling five local women in celebration of Women’s Day and Women’s Month, treating them to a basic facial treatment and refreshments on August 10.

According to senior librarian, Nompumelelo Ngcoko, their aim was to spoil a few street hawkers who play an important role in the tourism sector and in sustaining their families with the minimal income from their sales.

The Uitenhage Town Library is located in Market Street, Kariega, and looks forward to welcoming every avid reader, researcher and learner to their premises.

The staff held an event in July for Mandela Day as well and are planning another one in September for Heritage Day. The events serve a dual purpose: the library staff give back to the local community and more residents are made aware that the library is still open (and more active than ever), ready and eager to see more readers, researchers and learners around the tables and in the stacks.
