WGRUV dance company brings successful Jo’burg and Gqeberha show ‘Highlights’ to Cape Town

Independent dance company WGRUV returns to Cape Town’s District Six Homecoming Centre from 27 to 29 August with a new programme, Highlights: Tracing the Line, following the successful run of its 2026 season opener Juxtapose in Johannesburg and Gqeberha.

The programme brings works by internationally acclaimed choreographer Jessica Lang, Jesse Obremski, Michael Trusnovec and WGRUV’s own Holly and Lex Gruver together. Lang’s neo-classical craftsmanship has defined a generation of ballet, while Obremski’s movement language explores human connection, and Trusnovec is known for sculptural clarity and quiet power. The Gruvers’ collaborative choreographic voice continues to develop its own distinct character.

A curated collection

Highlights combines audience favourites with new discoveries, brought to life by WGRUV’s artists with the precision and passion the company is known for. The works explore the fundamental language of the body, line, colour, weight and meaning in a programme designed to be felt as much as watched.

“We wanted to offer our audiences an experience at the theatre that fills them,” WGRUV Artistic Director Holly Gruver said. “Each work traces something, a gesture, a story, an emotion, which together form a line from the stage to the heart. This is dance with a purpose. Dance that leaves you more alive than when you arrived.”

Company background

The WGRUV Dance Company, a non-profit founded by Holly Gruver, is a contemporary ballet company based in Bryanston, Johannesburg which works with South African and international choreographers to produce work of depth, beauty and cultural significance.

A dress rehearsal and Q&A session with dancers takes place on Thursday 27 August at 16:00 for students and school groups, with tickets at R99 per student. Email tanya@wgruvdance.com to book.

Performance times are Friday 28 August at 19:00 and Saturday 29 August at 15:00.

Tickets range from R220 to R300, with group discounts of 10% on five or more tickets and 20% on 10 or more, valid on the first two price tiers only.
