The Western Cape police have this week confiscated a large amount of dagga and cash, in addition to discovering firearms and ammunition at two houses on the Cape Flats.
The dagga and cash were confiscated at a house in Rywood Walk in Hanover Park, where a 36-year-old man was taken into custody for dealing in dagga.

Capt. Frederick van Wyk, provincial police spokesperson, says police conducted an intelligence-driven operation at the premises on Thursday 5 February when the arrest was made. He says the police were following up on information received of illicit activities at the house, which lead to the search of the house and its occupant.
“They found medium sized bags containing dagga and an undisclosed amount of cash, believed to the proceeds of crime,” says Van Wyk.
The suspect was detained at the Phillip Police Station and is due to appear in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court on Monday 9 February.
In an unrelated matter, the province’s police also discovered three 9mm firearms that had been abandoned at a house in Hugo Naudé Street in New Woodlands, Mitchells Plain.
The owner of the house, a woman, made the discovery in a bag.
“She opened it and discovered that it contained three firearms and a large amount of rounds of ammunition. She had no idea who had put the bag there,” says Van Wyk.

The firearms include a 9mm Norinco, of which the serial number had been filed off; a 9mm Ruger; and a 9mm firearm, also without a serial number.
The firearms and rounds of ammunition were handed in as exhibits and for further processing at the Lentegeur Police Station.
“The investigation into the matter was started,” says Van Wyk.
