The City of Cape Town’s Legal Services Department will host an awareness campaign about the Promotion of Access to Information Act (PAIA) at the Cape Town Civic Centre on Wednesday 23 September.

The event will run from 08:00 to 12:00 at the Cape Town Civic Centre, Hertzog Boulevard, Cape Town. Members of the public and City staff are encouraged to attend.

PAIA gives effect to Section 32 of the Constitution, which guarantees everyone the right of access to information held by the State, subject to certain exclusions prescribed by law. Through PAIA, members of the public can request information using accessible and affordable procedures designed to promote openness and public participation.

Residents can engage with officials

Residents attending the awareness campaign will have the opportunity to engage directly with officials from the City’s Access to Information Unit, receive guidance on submitting PAIA requests and learn about support services available through the Access to City Records Office at the Civic Centre.

The Access to City Records Office assists the public with the PAIA process, including guidance on completing and submitting PAIA forms, liaising with relevant City departments for the provision of records, and decisions on the outcomes of PAIA applications.
