A police chase all the way from Paarl East ended at Brackenfell railway station on Wednesday, where officers from the flying squad apprehended two men for cable theft.

During an intelligence operation police spotted the white vehicle in Groot Drakenstein in Paarl East at about 05:00, when the chase ensued.

According to police spokesperson Capt FC van Wyk the vehicle was finally stopped next to the railway station.

“Upon inspection officers confiscated copper cables with an estimated street value of R36 000. The two men aged 25 and 26 were arrested and detained on a charge of possession of stolen property,” he said in a statement.

The suspects appeared in Paarl Magistrate’s Court last week on charges of theft and destroying rail infrastructure.
