Approximately 140 of the 200 residents of Hardekraaltjie Caravan Park in Cape Town were left severely affected by the storm yesterday, with families, many of them with young children, in urgent need of basic necessities including food, shelter, and warm clothing.
The Boston Community Kitchen NPC is on the ground preparing meals for displaced residents, but the need far outstrips what volunteers can provide alone. Community members and organisations are being urged to open their hearts and contribute whatever they are able to.
What is needed?
Most relief coordinators have identified the following items as the most critically needed: tents and tarpaulins. blankets and warm clothing, children’s and baby clothing, shoes and socks, toiletries and baby supplies.

Non-perishable food that can be prepared on a gas or paraffin stove is needed, as is milk, tea, coffee, and sugar. Also needed are bread, soup ingredients, rice, pasta, and tinned food., peanut butter and polony.
How to help
Donations may be dropped off directly at the Hardekraaltjie Caravan Park office. No contribution is considered too small, says organisers who stressed that every item received makes a tangible difference to families navigating one of the most difficult periods of their lives.
The community extended its sincere gratitude to all those who have already stepped forward to offer their support.
